KAREN K. COTTON, born in Fresno, California on October 13, 1956.
Preparatory Education: California State University at Fresno
(B.A. 1978; California Elementary Education Teaching Credential
1978). Legal Education: Southwestern University School of Law
(Juris Doctor, 1981). Admitted to the California Bar in November
1992.
While in law school, Ms. Cotton had a one year judicial clerkship with the Immigration and Naturalization Court in Los Angeles, California, and later worked a as law clerk with Hall, Small, Burns and Palumbo, a firm specializing in insurance defense litigation. Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Cotton was employed as in-house and corporate counsel for The Computer Learning Center based in Fresno, California, from 1981 to 1990. Ms. Cotton was subsequently employed by the entertainment law firm of Cooper, Epstein & Hursitz in Beverly Hills, California, in the business litigation department. In 1993, Ms. Cotton moved to the law firm of Charles Ruben & Associates, and continued her work in business litigation. From 1998 to 2000, Ms. Cotton was employed as in-house and corporate counsel to Steven M. Hoefflin, M.D., FACS, a medical corporation.
